Amy founded Studio B Pilates in 2004 after relocating to Wisconsin from New York City where, in addition to pursuing professional dance, she trained in somatic movement and became certified in the Pilates method. Studio B was created as a space for quality movement education with the vision of helping to improve lives by providing a foundation for active lifestyles. Her work is dedicated to addressing sound body mechanics and neuromuscular patterning for optimal function and performance.
At 14 she was diagnosed with severe scoliosis and spent the rest of her high school years wearing a back brace. This experience led to a lifelong passion for helping others improve spinal alignment and move free of pain. From 2006 - 2009 Studio B Pilates was located within the clinic, Scoliosis Rehab Inc. During this time Amy developed a meaningful collaboration with physical therapists Beth Janssen and Patti Orthwein, together they created and taught a series of workshops for physical therapists and Pilates teachers. Amy credits Beth and Patti for helping her develop a strong understanding of and ability to work with scoliosis through movement training.
In 2010, under the tutelage of Nora St. John, she became a Pilates Educator for international leader in Pilates, Balanced Body Inc. She subsequently created an education program at Studio B Pilates and now divides her time working with clients and advancing the next generation of teachers. Amy has been a guest presenter at various Pilates studios, the International Curvy Girls Scoliosis Convention, the American College Dance Association, and the Wisconsin Athletic Trainers Association.
Amy is currently an Associate Lecturer at the University of Wisconsin- Stevens Point, where she co-directs the Pilates Education Program in the Department of Theater and Dance. She has taught movement analysis, somatic studies and modern dance at UW-Madison, Lawrence University and as a guest lecturer at various institutions.
Amy holds an MFA from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and a Graduate Level Certificate in Laban/Bartenieff Movement Analysis (GLCMA) from Columbia College Chicago. She began teaching Pilates in 2000, under the training of recognized teachers Lesley Powell and Doris Pasteler Hall. She subsequently spent a year and a half studying functional anatomy with Irene Dowd (NY). She has continues to study Pilates and movement science with many of the most informed sources.
